Learn more about the promising benefits of LDN

Low dose naltrexone (LDN) targets inflammatory pathways present in chronic illnesses, restoring a more balanced immune response — and allowing you to focus on brighter days ahead.

  • Naltrexone was initially approved to treat substance abuse by temporarily blocking opioid receptors. This action stimulates the production of endorphins and enkephalins, the body’s natural painkillers and immune modulators, thereby restoring a balanced immune response often disrupted in autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.

Additionally, there is evidence that low-dose naltrexone (LDN) reduces neuroinflammation, potentially protecting brain function. Early studies also suggest that LDN may be beneficial in reversing immune dysfunction and improving symptoms of Long COVID and ME/CFS.

  • Low dose naltrexone is used to treat a variety of persistent symptoms that impact the lives of those living with Long COVID, ME/CFS, and dysautonomia. Symptoms can include:

    • Fatigue

    • Brain Fog

    • Chronic Pain

    • Poor mood

    • Headaches

    • Dizziness

  • While Low-Dose Naltrexone is safe and generally well-tolerated by patients experiencing a range of conditions, there can be mild side-effects:

    • Nausea

    • Vomiting

    • Abdominal pain

    • Decreased appetite

    • Constipation

    • Headache

    • Fatigue

    • Insomnia or trouble sleeping

    • Vivid dreams

    • Dizziness

    • Depression

    • Anxiety

RTHM patient voices

“RTHM has given me hope. After struggling with Long COVID for two years, even with the help of a Long COVID clinic, I was still doing all of my own research and trying to keep my doctors advised of the state of the art in treatments.”

— Stuart S.

How do RTHM clinicians prescribe LDN?

Every patient’s journey towards health is unique, especially when managing chronic, complex conditions like Long COVID and ME/CFS. That is why we start patients at lower doses and gradually increase them to find the most effective dose with the fewest side effects.

If you are taking LDN for the first time, you will initially receive a 30-day prescription at the lower dose along with clear instructions on how to safely increase your dosage. Once you find your stable dose, you will receive a 60-day prescription at this stable dose.

If you have already found your stable dose of low dose naltrexone, you will have the option to receive a 90-day supply of medication.

Safety is our top priority

The eligibility criteria, the dosing protocols and the treatment guides for every treatment offered via RTHM Direct have been designed by a team of clinicians and pharmacists focused on complex illnesses.

As we continue to navigate the complexities of Long COVID, ME/CFS, and other chronic conditions, we are upholding the highest patient safety standards while expanding access to treatments.

And in case you missed anything.

  • Low-dose naltrexone (LDN), administered is significantly lower doses than the standard doses of Naltrexone used for indications like addiction.

LDN offers potential benefits for various conditions by adjusting how the brain’s support cells (glia) react to inflammation, leading to neuroprotection, and boosting the brain’s natural pain-relieving pathways.

LDN offers potential benefits for patients with Long COVID, ME/CFS, autoimmune diseases, chronic pain disorders, and inflammatory conditions. All while having a good safety profile.

  • Low-dose naltrexone can be used to treat a variety of symptoms impacting patients living with Long COVID and ME/CFS. Symptoms include:

    • Fatigue

    • Low energy

    • Brain Fog

    • Chronic Pain

    • Poor mood

    • Headaches

    • Dizziness

  • Each online consultation includes a prescription for a 90-day supply of medication. For medications that require titration, we typically prescribe a 30-day supply initially, followed by a 60-day supply after a check-in with your clinician. A subsequent 90-day prescription refill will require another online consultation.

  • Low-dose naltrexone is not meant for everyone and should be avoided by:

    • Individuals currently taking or dependent on opioids or opioid agonists, such as Vicodin, methadone, heroin, etc.

    • Individuals in acute opioid withdrawal

    • Individuals with a sensitivity to naltrexone or components of naltrexone

  • LDN does not come standard from pharmaceutical companies and must be provided through a compounding pharmacy. The most common form is a capsule and doses generally range between 0.5 and 4.5 mg.

Currently we offer doses of 1.5mg, 3.0mg, and 4.5mg.

  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If you are close to the time of your next dose, wait to take the next dose and then resume your normal dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose.

  • Side effects are common with most medications. Common side effects seen with LDN include:

    • Nausea

    • Vomiting

    • Abdominal pain

    • Decreased appetite

    • Constipation

    • Headache

    • Fatigue

    • Insomnia or trouble sleeping

    • Vivid dreams

    • Dizziness

    • Depression

    • Anxiety

    • Allergic reaction: itching, hives, swelling in the face or hands, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Keep this medication in the container provided by the pharmacy. Ensure it is properly closed and out of the reach of children. Store at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).

  • Our selected medications are low-risk and research-backed to improve symptoms of chronic complex conditions.

Each medication assessment is approved by a team of expert clinicians and pharmacists, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety.
