Key Benefits

Clearer Cognition
Guanfacine acts on the prefrontal cortex, improving memory, attention, and cognitive function commonly affected by conditions like Long COVID, ME/CFS, and dysautonomia.
Improved Hypertension
FDA-approved for treating high blood pressure, guanfacine reduces heart rate and relaxes blood vessels, improving blood flow and overall cardiovascular health.
Reduced Distractibility
Guanfacine helps manage hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and distractibility, enhancing focus and attention, particularly for those also managing ADHD symptoms.

Is Guanfacine right for me?

Guanfacine is particularly effective for:

  • Cognitive dysfunction (brain fog)
  • Forgetfulness and loss of words
  • Difficulty following conversations or completing tasks
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Hypertension

Patients with Long COVID, ME/CFS, or dysautonomia experiencing these symptoms may benefit from guanfacine.

What Does Science Say?

What People Are Saying About Guanfacine

Guanfacine is very helpful for me. I take 3mg of the extended release version (the one for ADHD, which I also have) first thing in the morning. It helps a lot with emotional dysregulation. I realized that I often experience mild tachycardia after dinner. My doctor added 1mg of the immediate release Guanfacine (the kind prescribed for blood pressure) that I take a little before dinner.

I was prescribed guanfacine for hyperPOTS a few months ago. It got rid of my headaches, tremor and adrenaline dumps, and lowered my blood pressure (which was quite high when upright). It didn’t have much of an impact on brain fog for me, but I just started ivabradine and am hoping that this helps my brain fog a bit once my body adjusts to it. I also have ADHD and guanfacine has probably had zero impact on my ADHD symptoms.

I was prescribed it by the doctor who manages my POTS specifically to help with temperature regulation, but it wasn’t a good fit for me. I have very low blood pressure and guanfacine further lowered it, which worsened my OH and led to more passing out/dangerously low HR. But I’m always glad to hear when someone finds something that works for them!
